On March 31, 2023, I retired as a senior executive from civilian service with the United States Navy, spanning 39 years. I would characterize myself as a lifelong learner, through formal and informal education. My Navy career leveraged graduate education and experience in engineering and program management fields of study with multiple disciplines wrapped around those core foundations. With two deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, I also gained significant experience living in a conflict environment. Through a Capitol Hill Fellowship program, I added political science and international relations to my education and experience.
As part of the Capitol Hill Fellowship Program in 1998, I served as the Military Legislative Assistant to Congressman Patrick Kennedy, a then-member of the House Armed Services Committee. I provided guidance to the Congressman dealing with defense, intelligence, budget committee, government reform, and women’s issues and represented the Congressman in meetings with senior members of military services, corporate executives, and local Government officials. I also spent eighteen months as an action officer/ policy analyst in the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Air Programs) from 2000-2001.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology from Temple University and several master’s degrees: Master of Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, Master of Art in International Relations from Salve Regina University, Master of Science in Business Administration from Temple University, majoring in Management Science and Operations Research, Master of Science degree in National Security Resource Strategy from Industrial College of the Armed Forces. To name just a few, I completed courses in reconstruction and nation building, Middle Eastern studies, international comparative defense industries, and acquisition policy I and II: research and technology policy co-authoring the paper, What Future for Eastern European Scientists and Engineers? I am a 2017 PhD graduate of the University of Maryland in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a major in project management. One can never be too old to acquire new knowledge and educational degrees.
My recognition and awards include two Joint Civilian Service Commendation awards, two Global War of Terrorism awards, NATO medal, Naval Air Warfare Center
Innovation Award for Program Management, and the Daniel S. McCauley Professional Achievement Award for Engineering. A strong proponent of learning, I also believe that documenting knowledge is critical for current and future generations' intellectual growth, I have published several papers on system mathematical modeling, maintenance data and reliability, project management, and leadership.
What is my new career? Intellectual travel: traveling the world, learning, and sharing my perspectives on international relations.
Meaningful travel with a purpose to learn and apply to make the world a better place.
Managing the Bucket List: The Journey Begins is the first book of a five-book series on traveling the world and integrating the knowledge acquired. Not the typical travel book, I focus on intellectual travel.
